The Healthcare Academy with NHS Tayside has been running for almost 20 years and is delivered in partnership by NHS Tayside, D&A College and Discover Work.
What to expect:
- An entry-level* training course for people with limited or no qualifications and experience of working in the healthcare industry
- 2 weeks classroom work delivered by D&A College
- 1 week employability training delivered by Discover Work
- 3 weeks of work placements in various clinical and non-clinical NHS departments
- Modules and accredited training including; first aid, manual handling, infection control, continence care, etc.
- Help to apply for any available jobs in NHS (or anything else you like) on completion of the course
- Guaranteed interview for those who complete the academy
- Key worker support to help you get ready for starting work and for up to a year into your employment
Important dates & locations**:
- Information Day: 11am, Tuesday 21st April 2026 at Lecture Theatre 1, D&A College, Gardyne Road, DD5 1NY
- Interviews: Thursday 23rd April 2026
- Registrations: Friday 24th April 2026
- Placements: Monday 18th May to Thursday 21st May 2026
- Full course dates: Monday 4th May to Friday 12th June 2026
Requirements:
- Live in Dundee or close by
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Be unemployed or underemployed (not enough hours, low pay, etc.)
- Be able to commit to all days of the course
- Be interested in working in the healthcare industry
* Healthcare Academy is primarily for people without university level education (some exceptions apply)
